DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 1100 AM HST (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Erick was
located near latitude 16.6 North, longitude 158.4 West. Erick is
moving toward the west near 13 mph (20 km/h), and a movement toward
the west-northwest with a gradual loss in forward speed is expected
during the next couple of days.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts.
Weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Erick is
expected to become a remnant low by Sunday.
 
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km)
from the center.
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
SURF: Swells generated by Erick will continue to affect the main
Hawaiian Islands today, producing dangerous surf conditions, mainly
along east and southeast facing shores.
 
RAINFALL:  Moisture associated with Erick will continue to spread
over portions of the main Hawaiian Islands through early Saturday,
bringing the potential for localized heavy rainfall. Total rainfall
amounts of 4 to 8 inches are possible, with localized higher
amounts.
