Interests in the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument should monitor the progress of Ema. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Ema was located near latitude 20.0 North, longitude 163.5 West. Ema is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue during the next couple days. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast today and tonight, with Ema expected to weaken into a post-tropical remnant low on Sunday, and dissipate Sunday night. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1008 mb (29.77 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- RAINFALL: Heavy rainfall associated with Ema may affect portions of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument from French Frigate Shoals to Maro Reef tonight through Sunday night.
