DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Gabrielle was located near latitude 27.3 North, longitude 38.7 West. Gabrielle is moving toward the northwest near 17 mph (28 km/h). A turn to the west-northwest with a slight increase in forward speed are expected over the next couple of days. A decrease in forward speed and a turn to the north are forecast to occur by Sunday morning. Satellite-derived winds indicate that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Gabrielle is forecast to become a hurricane early next week. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches).
