DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Norman was located near latitude 19.9 North, longitude 141.7 West. Norman is moving toward the west near 17 mph (28 km/h). A westward motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected to continue through Tuesday night, followed by a turn to the west-northwest on Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts. Slight weakening is possible overnight and Tuesday, but Norman is forecast to remain a hurricane through Wednesday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 982 mb (29.00 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
