DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Miriam was located
near latitude 15.3 North, longitude 141.6 West. Miriam is moving
toward the northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h). A turn toward the north
is expected later today, with this motion continuing through Friday
night. A turn toward the northwest is expected on Saturday.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph (130 km/h) with higher
gusts. Some additional intensification is expected today, followed
by fairly rapid weakening Friday through Saturday night.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles
(150 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 985 mb (29.09 inches).
