SUMMARY OF 1100 PM HST...0900 UTC...INFORMATION ----------------------------------------------- LOCATION...14.7N 141.1W ABOUT 985 MI...1585 KM ESE OF HILO HAWAII ABOUT 1195 MI...1920 KM ESE OF HONOLULU HAWAII MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...80 MPH...130 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...WNW OR 300 DEGREES AT 8 MPH...13 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...985 MB...29.09 INCHES WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Miriam was located near latitude 14.7 North, longitude 141.1 West. Miriam is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h). A turn toward the northwest is expected tonight, followed by a turn toward the north Thursday through Friday night. Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph (130 km/h) with higher gusts. Some additional intensification is expected tonight and Thursday, followed by fairly rapid weakening Friday through Saturday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 985 mb (29.09 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
