A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for...
* Johnston Island
 
A Tropical Storm Watch indicates tropical storm conditions are
possible. 
 
Interests in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, including Midway
and Kure Atolls and the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument
west of French Frigate Shoals, should monitor the progress of
Hector. This does not include the main Hawaiian Islands.
 
 
DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 800 PM HST (0600 UTC), the center of Hurricane Hector was located
near latitude 17.2 North, longitude 163.7 West. Hector is moving
just north of due west near 16 mph (26 km/h).  A gradual turn toward
the west-northwest is expected from later tonight through Friday,
followed by a northwestward motion from Friday night through
Saturday.  On the latest forecast track, the center of Hector is
expected to pass 100 to 200 miles north of Johnston Island late
Friday.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph (205 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Hector is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson
Hurricane Wind Scale.  Some strengthening is forecast through
early Friday, followed by gradual weakening from late Friday through
Saturday.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from
the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105
miles (165 km).
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 955 mb (28.20 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

SURF: Swells generated by Hector should begin to impact Johnston
Island by early Friday morning. This will likely produce large and
dangerous waves along portions of the island from Friday through
Friday night.
