DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Kenneth was
located near latitude 16.2 North, longitude 128.4 West. Kenneth is
moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h). A slower
west-northwestward motion is expected later today, and a turn toward
the northwest is forecast to occur on Monday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 90 mph (150 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Additional strengthening is forecast during the
next day or so, but weakening should commence by Monday night.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles
(150 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 980 mb (28.94 inches).
