DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was
located near latitude 14.1 North, longitude 131.6 West. Fernanda is
moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h), and a
generally northwestward motion at a slightly slower forward speed is
expected over the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph (205 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Fernanda is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson
Hurricane Wind Scale.  A weakening trend is likely to begin tonight.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles
(185 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 954 mb (28.17 inches).
