DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was
located near latitude 11.0 North, longitude 117.0 West. Fernanda is
moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and a general motion
toward the west is expected during the next day or so. A turn
toward the west-northwest is expected on Saturday.
Fernanda continues to strengthen and maximum sustained winds have
increased to near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts. Rapid
strengthening is forecast, and Fernanda is likely to become a
major hurricane on Friday.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles
(95 km).
The estimated minimum central pressure is 988 mb (29.18 inches).
