DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Eugene was located
near latitude 17.6 North, longitude 115.9 West.  Eugene is moving
toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h) and this motion is
expected to continue during the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Little change in strength is expected overnight, but Eugene
is forecast to move over cooler waters and begin to weaken more
quickly on Monday or Monday night.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles
(165 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 972 mb (28.71 inches).
