DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the distinct eye of Hurricane Eugene was
located near latitude 16.7 North, longitude 115.3 West. Eugene is
moving toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h) and this motion is
expected to continue during the next 2 days.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 115 mph (185 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Eugene is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson
Hurricane Wind Scale.  Eugene could gather some additional strength
during the next 12 hours, but weakening should begin thereafter.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles
(150 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 965 mb (28.50 inches).
