DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Post-Tropical Cyclone Paine
was located near latitude 28.0 North, longitude 116.5 West. The
low is moving toward the north near 12 mph (19 km/h).  A turn
toward the north-northeast is expected tonight, followed by a turn
toward the northeast and a decrease in forward speed on Wednesday.
On the forecast track, the remnant low will approach the northwest
coast of the Baja California peninsula on Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.
Weakening is forecast during the next 24 hours, and the remnant low
is forecast to dissipate by Wednesday night.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1006 mb (29.71 inches).


HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
RAINFALL: The remnants of Paine are expected to produce additional
rainfall amounts of between one half to one inch across the northern
Baja California peninsula through Wednesday.  Isolated maximum storm
total amounts of 6 inches are possible in association with Paine.

Rain well in advance of this system will continue to affect portions
of southern California, Arizona, southern Utah, New Mexico, and
southwestern Colorado with local maximum amounts of 1 to 3 inches
possible, mainly over the favored higher terrain.

WIND:  Wind gusts to near gale force are possible along portions of
the northwest coast of the Baja California peninsula through
tonight.
