DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Orlene was located
near latitude 19.8 North, longitude 118.7 West. Orlene is moving
toward the north-northeast near 5 mph (7 km/h).  A slow motion
toward the north is expected later today and tonight, followed by a
motion toward the west on Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 100 mph (155 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Additional weakening is forecast during the next
48 hours.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles
(150 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 975 mb (28.80 inches).
