DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Orlene was located near latitude 17.9 North, longitude 119.2 West. Orlene is moving toward the north near 6 mph (9 km/h). This general motion is expected to continue followed by a turn toward the north-northwest late Tuesday night, and a westward turn on Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 110 mph (175 km/h) with higher gusts. Orlene is a category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some additional strengthening is forecast through Tuesday morning. Gradual weakening is expected to commence by Tuesday night. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 967 mb (28.56 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
