DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Orlene was
located near latitude 14.8 North, longitude 115.9 West. Orlene is
moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h).  A west-
northwestward to northwestward motion with a significant decrease
in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with
higher gusts.  Additional strengthening is forecast, and Orlene is
forecast to become a hurricane by late Monday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km),
mainly to the east of the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1006 mb (29.71 inches).
