DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 900 AM MDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lester was
located near latitude 16.6 North, longitude 112.5 West.  Lester is
moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h) and a
gradual turn toward the west is expected over the next 48 hours.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) with
higher gusts.  Continued strengthening is forecast during the next
couple of days, and Lester is likely to become a hurricane on
Friday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km)
from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb (29.59 inches).
