DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Darby was located
near latitude 16.0 North, longitude 119.1 West. Darby is moving
toward the west near 13 mph (20 km/h). A westward or west-
northwestward motion at a slightly slower forward speed is expected
during the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 90 mph (150 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Little change in strength is expected on Friday.
Gradual weakening is forecast to begin late Friday night or on
Saturday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles
(165 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 982 mb (29.00 inches).
