DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Blas was located near
latitude 14.7 North, longitude 122.7 West. Blas is moving toward the
west near 12 mph (19 km/h).  A turn toward the west-northwest is
expected later today, and this west-northwestward motion is expected
to continue through Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 125 mph (205 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Blas is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-
Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Slow weakening is forecast today,
followed by faster weakening on Thursday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles
(240 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 956 mb (28.23 inches).
