DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
------------------------------
At 500 PM AST (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Nicole was located
near latitude 39.4 North, longitude 49.4 West. Nicole is moving
toward the east-northeast near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this motion is
expected to continue with a decrease in forward speed tonight and
Sunday.  A turn toward the northeast is expected on Monday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Little change in strength is expected through tonight, while
gradual weakening is forecast Sunday through Monday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km) from
the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 415
miles (665 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 960 mb (28.35 inches).


HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
SURF:  Swells associated with Nicole will continue to affect Bermuda
and the United States east coast from the Carolinas northward for
the next couple of days.  Swells from Nicole are affecting the
coastline of Atlantic Canada and will continue through the remainder
of the weekend.  These swells will create dangerous surf conditions
and rip currents.  Please refer to products being issued by your
local weather office for more information.
