Interests in southern portions of the Baja California peninsula
should monitor the progress of Sandra.  Tropical storm or hurricane
watches may be required for portions of this area later today.


DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
------------------------------
At 200 AM MST (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Sandra was located
near latitude 12.5 North, longitude 109.0 West. Sandra is moving
toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h). A turn toward the
northwest is expected later today, with a turn toward the north
on Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 85 mph (140 km/h)
with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the
next 36 hours, and Sandra could become a major hurricane later
today or Thursday.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the
center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 80 miles
(130 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 979 mb (28.91 inches).
