DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
------------------------------
At 700 PM CDT (0000 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Marty was
located near latitude 16.3 North, longitude 101.2 West. Marty has
been stationary the past several hours. A turn toward the west or
west-northwest is expected later tonight, and this general motion
is likely to continue on Wednesday and Wednesday night with some
increase in forward speed. On the forecast track, the center of
Marty is expected to be near but just offshore of the southwestern
coast of Mexico tonight through Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher
gusts. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and
Marty could weaken to a tropical depression Wednesday or Wednesday
night.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km)
from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches).

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
WIND: Tropical storm conditions are likely occurring within
portions of the tropical storm warning area. Tropical storm
conditions are possible within the watch area later tonight or
Wednesday.

RAINFALL: Marty is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 5 to 10
inches over the Mexican state of Guerrero through Thursday. Isolated
amounts of 15 inches are possible in Guerrero from the Sierra Madre
del Sur mountains toward the coast. These rains are expected to
produce life-threatening flash floods and mud slides, especially in
areas of mountainous terrain.

STORM SURGE: A storm surge is expected to produce coastal flooding
in areas of onshore flow. The surge will be accompanied by large
and destructive waves.

SURF: Swells generated by Marty are affecting portions of the
coast of southern Mexico. These swells are likely to cause life-
threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult
products from your local weather office.
