SUBJECT:  STORM SURGE PROBABILITY GREATER THAN FIVE FEET TO BECOME 
          AN OFFICIAL PRODUCT EFFECTIVE JUNE 1 2008
                
BEGINNING JUNE 1 2008 A PORTION OF THE EXPERIMENTAL PROBABILISTIC 
HURRICANE STORM SURGE PRODUCTS WILL BECOME AN OFFICIAL PRODUCT.  
A PRODUCT PROVIDING STORM SURGE PROBABILITY OF GREATER THAN FIVE 
FEET WILL BE OFFICIAL AND POSTED TO THE NATIONAL HURRICANE 
CENTER/NHC/ WEB SITE AT: /USER LOWER CASE/:

  HTTP://WWW.NHC.NOAA.GOV

A COMPREHENSIVE DESCRIPTION IS POSTED AT: /USER LOWER CASE/:

  HTTP://WWW.NHC.NOAA.GOV/ABOUTNHCGRAPHICS.SHTML#PSURGE

OTHER PROBABILISTIC STORM SURGE PRODUCTS WILL REMAIN 
EXPERIMENTAL. THOSE PRODUCTS CAN BE FOUND ONLINE AT:

  HTTP://WWW.WEATHER.GOV/MDL/PSURGE

BOTH OFFICIAL AND EXPERIMENTAL PROBABLISTIC STORM SURGE PRODUCTS 
ARE PRODUCED WHENEVER THERE ARE HURRICANE WATCHES OR WARNINGS IN 
EFFECT FOR THE ATLANTIC OR GULF OF MEXICO COASTS FOR THE 
CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES.

AFTER THE 2008 HURRICANE SEASON NWS WILL ASSESS EXPANDING THE 
PROBABILITIES TO ADDRESS DEPTHS OTHER THAN FIVE FEET FOR 2009.
