SUBJECT:     DISCONTINUATION OF SPECIAL TROPICAL DISTURBANCE 
             STATEMENTS AND BEGINNING OF SPECIAL TROPICAL WEATHER 
             OUTLOOKS: EFFECTIVE MAY 15 2009 

EFFECTIVE MAY 15 2009...THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER AND 
CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE CENTER WILL DISCONTINUE THE ISSUANCE 
OF SPECIAL TROPICAL DISTURBANCE /DSA/ STATEMENTS.  THE FOLLOWING 
PRODUCTS WILL NO LONGER BE ISSUED ON OR AFTER MAY 15 2009:

PRODUCT TYPE LINE		       AWIPS ID/S  WMO HEADINGS
SPECIAL TROPICAL DISTURBANCE STATEMENT    DSAAT    WONT41 KNHC
SPECIAL TROPICAL DISTURBANCE STATEMENT    DSAEP    WOPZ41 KNHC
SPECIAL TROPICAL DISTURBANCE STATEMENT    DSACP	   ACPA80 PHFO

SPECIAL DSA/S WERE FORMERLY ISSUED WHEN IMPORTANT CHANGES IN 
AREAS OF DISTURBED WEATHER OVER TROPICAL OR SUBTROPICAL WATERS 
NEEDED TO BE CONVEYED BEFORE THE NEXT SCHEDULED RELEASE OF THE 
TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK.  EFFECTIVE MAY 15 2009...THE 
INFORMATION FORMERLY PROVIDED IN DSA STATEMENTS WILL BE 
AVAILABLE THROUGH THE ISSUANCE OF SPECIAL TROPICAL WEATHER 
OUTLOOKS /TWO/S.  THESE PRODUCT CHANGES RESULT IN NO DEGRADATION 
OF SERVICE...BUT PROVIDE A MORE EFFICIENT DELIVERY OF THE SAME 
INFORMATION TO OUR USERS. 

USERS WISHING TO CONTINUE RECEIVING THE INFORMATION PREVIOUSLY 
PROVIDED THROUGH DSA/S WILL NEED TO ADD THE FOLLOWING 
COMMUNICATIONS IDENTIFIERS TO THEIR DATABASES...THIS WILL ENSURE 
THEY RECEIVE ALL ROUTINELY-ISSUED TWO PRODUCTS AS WELL AS 
SPECIAL TWO/S.

THE NHC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL METEOROLOGICAL DECISIONS 
CONCERNING FORECASTING OF TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL SYSTEMS FOR 
THE ATLANTIC OCEAN AND THE EASTERN PACIFIC OCEAN...NORTH OF THE 
EQUATOR AND EAST OF 140 DEGREES WEST LONGITUDE.

THE CPHC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL METEOROLOGICAL DECISIONS 
CONCERNING FORECASTING OF TROPICAL SYSTEMS FOR THE PACIFIC OCEAN 
NORTH OF THE EQUATOR FROM 140 DEGREES WEST TO 180 DEGREES WEST 
LONGITUDE.
