For the eastern North Pacific...east of 140 degrees west longitude:

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Karina, located more than a thousand miles east-southeast of the Big Island of Hawaii, and on recently upgraded Hurricane Lowell, located about 800 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.

Showers and thunderstorms associated with a broad area of low pressure located several hundred miles south-southeast of Acapulco, Mexico, have become a little better organized over the past few hours. Environmental conditions are conducive for development, and a tropical depression is likely to form tonight or Friday while the system moves west-northwestward at about 10 mph. * Formation chance through 48 hours...high...80 percent. * Formation chance through 5 days...high...90 percent.
