Central East Pacific Tropical Depression Twenty-E: Morning satellite imagery shows that deep convection has persisted near the center of low pressure that the NHC has been monitoring the past few days, EP94. Organization and persistence of this convection is now sufficient for this system to be classified as a Tropical Depression. Scattered to numerous moderate to strong convection is seen within 45 nm north and 210 nm south of the center. Twenty-E is drifting W-NW this morning and a continued slow northward motion is expected over the new few. Twenty-E is expected to briefing intensify to minimal Tropical Storm strength this evening and then weaken to Tropical Depression strength on Fri. Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: Gap winds have diminished below gale-force this morning, and the gale warning has ended. The pressure gradient between high pressure along the eastern slopes of Mexico and the eastern north Pacific monsoon trough will continue to support strong N to NE winds across and downstream of the Gulf of Tehuantepec to near 13N throughout the morning, then steadily diminish through this evening. Peak seas are currently near 12 ft and will subside to less than 8 ft late this evening. The monsoon trough extends from 12N77W to 08.5N91W to 12.5N103W to T.D. Twenty-E near 11.8N120.9W, then resumes near 09N129W to 03.5N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 00N to 08.5N between 78W and 90W. Scattered moderate to strong convection is noted within 180 nm N of trough between 128W and 140W. ...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... The pressure gradient between high pressure west of the Baja California peninsula and low pressure across NW Mexico is supporting moderate to locally fresh winds across the Gulf of California. Wave heights are in the 3 to 4 ft range. Elsewhere, gentle to moderate winds are noted west of the Baja California peninsula, with light to gentle winds over the remainder of the open waters off SW Mexico. Seas are in the 4-6 ft range in NW swell. For the forecast, Gap winds across the Gulf of Tehuantepec have diminished below gale-force this morning and will steadily diminishing through tonight. NW swell will move into the far offshore waters off Baja California, reaching Guadalupe Island by late Fri, the waters off Cabo San Lazaro Sun, and the Revillagigedo Islands by Mon. A weak cold front will approach the offshore waters of Baja California Norte by Sun, supporting moderate to fresh SW winds over the northern Gulf of California Sun and Mon. ...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Moderate to fresh offshore gap winds are over and downwind the Gulf of Papagayo, and Gulf of Fonseca this morning, with light winds elsewhere N of the monsoon trough. Gentle to moderate winds are found between Colombia and the Galapagos Islands, with light to gentle winds elsewhere S of the monsoon trough. Seas of 7-9 ft are well offshore Guatemala in northwesterly swell generated by the ongoing Gulf of Tehuantepec gap wind event, with seas of 4-6 ft elsewhere. For the forecast, swell generated by an ongoing Gulf of Tehuantepec gap wind event will impact the waters well offshore western Guatemala through late today. Gentle to moderate winds are expected S of the monsoon trough through Sun when winds will diminish to light to gentle speeds. Elsewhere, moderate to fresh winds are noted north of the monsoon trough to 21N and west of 120W, with seas of 6-9 ft. Gentle to moderate winds are N of 20N, with seas of 6-8 ft. Gentle to locally moderate winds and 4 to 6 ft seas are noted south of the monsoon trough. For the forecast, the swell impacting the area will diminish through late today. New NW swell will enter the northern waters tonight. This swell will spread across the western waters, with seas greater than 8 ft covering much of the waters west of 120W by the end of the weekend into early next week. $$ Stripling
