000 AXPZ20 KNHC 110908 TWDEP Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 1005 UTC Wed Oct 11 2023 Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from 03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0900 UTC. ...TROPICAL WAVES... A tropical wave has its axis along 88W north of 04N to across El Salvador and western Honduras. It is moving westward at 10 to 15 kt. The wave is helping to induce some convective activity over El Salvador. Numerous moderate to isolated strong convection is near and to the W of the southern end of the wave axis from 04N to 08N between 90W and 95W. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough axis extends from 12N85W to 15N95W then resumes at 14N110W to 10N124W to 08N140W. Scattered moderate to strong convection is noted from 15N to the coast of Mexico between 101W and 104W. Similar convective activity is between the monsoon trough and the coast of Mexico between 90W and 95W, and from 02N to 06N E of 79W to the coast of Colombia. ...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO...Corrected The last advisory was issued by the National Hurricane Center on Lidia at 11/0900 UTC. At this time, the remnants of Lidia are centered near 22.5N 102.5W, moving northeast at 20 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 30 kt with gusts to 40 kt. Scatterometer data indicate an area of fresh to strong SW to W winds from 13N to 18N between 102W and 108W affecting the coastal waters of Michoacan and Colima. Similar winds speeds from the NW and N are noted along the coast of Jalisco and Nayarit, including Cabo Corrientes. These winds are still associated with the cyclonic circulation of the remnants of Lidia moving inland over Mexico. Rough to very rough seas are still affecting the coastal waters of west-central Mexico, roughly between Michoacan and Nayarit, including Cabo Corrientes. Lidia will dissipate this afternoon. High pressure dominates the offshore forecast waters of Baja California north of Cabo San Lazaro producing moderate to fresh NW to N winds with seas of 6 to 8 ft. In the Gulf of California, gentle to moderate southerly winds prevail with seas of 6 to 8 ft across the southern part of the Gulf. For the forecast, a weak cold front will move across the northern forecast waters today bringing an increase in winds and seas, mainly north of Punta Eugenia. Long period NW swell will follow the front, building seas to 11 or 12 ft N of 26N between 116W and 134W by Thu morning, with the highest seas near 30N120W. In the Gulf of California, moderate to fresh S to SW winds are expected through Thu, with seas of 3 to 5 ft. Elsewhere across the Mexican offshore waters, marine conditions will gradually improve. Mainly westerly winds will prevail with seas subsiding below 8 ft on Thu. ...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Recent satellite derived wind data indicate mostly light and variable winds N of 06N, and gentle to moderate south winds south of 06N. Seas are generally 4 to 6 ft across the region in southerly swell. For the forecast, mainly light to gentle winds will continue north of of the monsoon trough, with gentle to moderate winds south of it. Southerly swell will continue to propagate across the offshore forecast waters with seas in the 4 to 7 ft range. ...REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A ridge dominates the forecast waters N of 15N and W of 120W. Under the influence of the ridge, mainly gentle to moderate northerly winds persist east of 120W due to the pressure gradient between the ridge and lower pressures related to the circulation of the remnants of Lidia. An area of moderate to locally fresh NE winds is noted from 14N to 21N between 125W and 132W. Elsewhere over the northern forecast waters light to gentle winds are noted. Gentle to moderate S to SW winds are observed south of the monsoon trough. North of the monsoon trough, light to gentle winds remain there. W of 120W, seas are generally 4-6 ft. For the forecast, a ridge will prevail west of about 120W today, then extend eastward toward Baja California as the remnants of Lidia continues to move inland and dissipate. A cold front will move across the northern forecast waters today, ushering in increasing winds and seas. Long period NW swell are expected in the wake of the front. This swell event will propagate across the N waters, particularly N of 22N between 116W and 128W over the next couple of days. $$ GR
