Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: Gale force northerly winds funneling through the Chivela Pass into the Gulf of Tehuantepec will diminish early today. Seas to 13 ft will subside gradually as the winds diminish. The monsoon trough extends from 08N78W to 06N92W to 03N100W. The ITCZ extends from 03N100W to 04N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted from 04N to 07N between 94W and 103W, and from 03N to 10N between 130W and 140W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Please see the Special Features section for information on an ongoing gale force gap wind event in the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Aside from the Gulf of Tehuantepec, gentle to moderate winds are noted off Baja California Norte, with light to gentle winds elsewhere. Seas are in the 5-7 ft range over the open waters off Mexico, and 1-3 ft over the Gulf of California. For the forecast, gale force winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec will diminish early today. NW moderate to fresh winds are forecast to develop across the SW Mexican offshore waters late this afternoon and prevail in the Jalisco offshores through Mon morning. A cold front will move across the Baja California Norte region enhancing winds and seas N of Punta Eugenia late this weekend through Tue. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Strong to near gale force NE-E gap winds prevail across the Gulf of Papagayo region and Nicaragua offshore waters along with seas of 8 to 12 ft. The strong winds reaches as far west as 93W. Moderate to locally strong winds and seas of 8-10 ft associated with both the Papagayo and Tehuantepec gap wind events are affecting the Guatemala and El Salvador offshore waters. Fresh to strong N to NE winds, and seas to 8 ft, are across the Gulf of Panama. Elsewhere, light to gentle winds and seas to 6 ft in SW swell prevail. For the forecast, strong to occasionally near gale force NE winds over the Gulf of Papagayo region will prevail through the middle of next week. Strong N to NE winds in the Gulf of Panama will diminish to fresh speeds Sun evening and to moderate speeds Thu. Swell generated from the gale force gap wind event in the Gulf of Tehuantepec across the El Salvador and Guatemala offshore waters will subside this weekend. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Surface ridging prevails across the waters of 20N. The pressure gradient between this area of high pressure and lower pressure in the vicinity of the ITCZ is supporting moderate to fresh winds N of the ITCZ and W of 125W. Seas over this area are in the 8-9 ft range in a mix of NW swell and NE wind waves. Gentle to moderate winds and seas of 6-7 ft prevail elsewhere across the discussion waters. For the forecast, NW swell will slowly subside through the weekend. A new set of NW swell propagate into the waters south of 30N Sun night into Mon.
