The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0300 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Hurricane Olivia centered near 16.7N 120.1W at 0300 UTC, moving W at 10 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 955 mb. Maximum sustained winds are 110 kt with gusts to 135 kt. Numerous moderate to strong convection is within 75 nm of center, and scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted elsewhere within 150 nm of the center. Olivia is forecast to continue westward, then west-northwest, and gradually weaken through Fri. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 10N to 14N between 94W and 98W. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 09N84W to 09N94W to a low pres near 11N105W to 08N111W, then resumes SW of Olivia near 14N122W to 12N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is from 05N to 10N E of 94W, from 10N to 13N between 100W and 108W, and from 09N to 13N between 133W and 138W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A surface trough will meander between the the Gulf of California and the Baja California Peninsula the next few days. A ridge is forecast to build across the region Wed as Olivia moves further away from the offshore forecast waters. However, swell generated by Olivia will continue to propagate across the offshore waters through Wed night. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... The monsoon trough will linger near 09N/10N during the next few days. Winds on both sides of the trough axis will be gentle to moderate, and seas of 4 to 6 feet are expected through Wed. Long period SW swell will propagate across the region, building seas to 8-9 ft by Fri, first between Ecuador and Galapagos Islands, then across the pacific waters of Costa Rica and Panama. Associated winds and seas will continue to diminish over forecast waters through Wed. Otherwise, a ridge dominates the forecast waters N of 20N W of 120W, with gentle to moderate winds.
