The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 2145 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends southwest from the Pacific coast of Costa Rica at 10N85W to 06N91W to 07N103W where scatterometer winds indicate that an ITCZ develops and continues west to 08N130W to 06N140W. Scattered moderate and isolated strong convection is noted within 180 nm either side of lines from 04N77W to 08N85W to 07N118W, and from 07N121W to 06N140W. Scattered moderate and isolated strong convection is noted near the Gulf of Tehuantepec within 150 nm of 13N96W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A northwest to southeast ridge will meander just seaward of 250 nm for the next several days with the pressure gradient forecast to relax late this weekend. Fresh to strong northwest flow currently observed across the open waters N of 25N west of the Baja Peninsula, will diminish to a moderate to locally fresh northwest breeze on Mon, and further diminish to moderate northerly breeze by mid week as the associated seas subside to less than 8 ft on Wed night. Gulf of California: Light to gentle southerly winds forecast for tonight and Sun are expected to increase to a fresh to strong southwest breeze along 30N on Sun night into Mon morning, and again from Mon evening through Tue evening, with seas building to a maximum of 6 ft near 30.5N113W. Gulf of Tehuantepec: Fresh to strong northerly winds will resume this evening through and just downstream of the Gulf of Tehuantepec, and persist till around sunrise on Sun. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gulf of Papagayo: Moderate to locally fresh northeast nocturnal winds are expected though Sun night, with fresh to locally strong nocturnal drainage flow then forecast to resume on Mon night. Gulf of Panama: Gentle nocturnal flow is forecast for the next several nights. Elsewhere, light to gentle winds will prevail through Mon, accompanied by 4 to 6 ft seas. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A ridge extends from 32N138W to 13N106W. Fresh trades, and 6 to 8 ft seas will continue between the ridge and the ITCZ through Mon night, then moderate trades are forecast during the remainder of next week. $$ Nelson
