The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0900 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from 09N84W to 06N90W to 04N105W. The ITCZ continues from 04N105W to 03N120W to 05N130W to 06N140W. Isolated to scattered moderate convection is noted from 04N to 06N between 83W and 90W, and from 03N to 05N between 96W and 100W. No significant convection is noted. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Gulf of Tehuantepec: Winds over the SW Gulf of Mexico have veered to the E, decreasing winds funneling through the Chivela pass into the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Winds have diminished below 20 kt, and seas have subsided below 8 ft. Marine guidance suggests that another gap wind event may occur across the Gulf of Tehuantepec late Wed night into Thu, but winds are expected to remain below gale force. A ridge will dominate the offshore forecast waters W of Baja California peninsula through the middle of this week producing mainly gentle to moderate NW-N winds and seas of 4 to 7 ft. Gulf of California: Mainly light to gentle winds will prevail over much of the gulf the next several days, with the exception of gentle to moderate winds over the northern gulf today through Tue, and across the central and southern gulf Wed and Wed night. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gulf of Papagayo: moderate to fresh NE-E winds are expected through Tue, and then again on Thu, with seas generally in the 4-7 ft range. Gentle to moderate winds will prevail the remainder of the forecast period. Gulf of Panama: moderate to fresh N-NE winds will prevail through tonight, with seas of 4-7 ft. Elsewhere, gentle to moderate offshore flow is generally expected N of 09N through Tue, while light and variable winds are forecast S of 09N. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A 1023 mb high pressure located near 35N136W extends a ridge SE across the forecast waters to near the Revillagigedo Islands. This high pressure center will move SE over the next 24-48 hours, reaching a position near 28N126W by this evening, then will remain nearly stationary over the northern forecast waters through Tue eneving. Under the influence of this system, a weak pressure pattern will prevail over the forecast area. This will maintain mainly gentle to moderate winds, with seas less than 8 ft through Tue night. Then, expect increasing winds and building seas across the far NW forecast waters on Wed, ahead of a cold front approaching from the W. Marine guidance indicates fresh to strong southerly winds and seas of 8-10 ft NW of a line from 30N137W to 27N140W by Wed evening. $$ GR
