Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: High pressure across the Gulf is supporting minimal gale force north winds into the gulf. Winds in Tehuantepec will briefly drop below gale force this afternoon then pulse again to 30-40 kt tonight, with max seas building to 13-14 ft. Winds and seas will decrease below gale force early Friday, then decrease significantly Sat night. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from 08N83W to 06N94W. The ITCZ axis continues from 06N94W to 07N130W to 07N140W. Scattered moderate convection is within 30 nm either side of the ITCZ axis between 116W and 122W. ...DISCUSSION... Weak high pressure is centered W of the Baja peninsula near 26N 120W. The high will support gentle northerly winds in the Baja offshore waters through tonight. Moderate northerly winds will develop Fri morning as a strong ridge builds NW of the area behind a weakening cold front moving into southern California. Gulf of California: Light to gentle variable winds will dominate the gulf waters through the weekend. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gulf of Papagayo: Fresh to strong northeast winds downstream from the Gulf of Papagayo today will spread westward to near 92W on Friday. Strong noctural winds will continue through Sun, with max seas building to 10-11 ft. Fresh to strong northerly winds are also expected downstream of the Gulf of Panama through Friday evening. Light to gentle flow will prevail elsewhere across the region. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A low pres system well N of the area extends a cold front from 30N125W to 19N136W. Fresh to strong northerly winds are expected NW of a line from 0N134W to 26N140W this morning with seas to 14 ft. The low will continue to lift N-NE away from the area today, and the front will weaken then dissipate into Fri night.
