Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: High pressure in southern Mexico behind a frontal system across the Yucatan Peninsula is supporting strong to near-gale north winds into the gulf. Winds in Tehuantepec will strengthen to minimal gale force overnight and pulse again Thu night, with seas building to a max of 13 ft. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from 07N77W to 04N87W to 05N94W. The ITCZ axis continues from 05N94W to 08N110W to 07N140W. Scattered moderate convection is within 75 nm either side of this axis between 88W and 100W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is from 05N to 08N between 116W and 125W. ...DISCUSSION... Weak high pressure is centered W of the Baja peninsula near 27N 120W. The high will support gentle northerly winds in the Baja offshore waters through Thursday. Moderate northerly winds will develop Fri morning as a strong ridge builds NW of the forecast area behind a cold front moving into southern California. Gulf of California: Light to gentle variable winds will dominate the gulf waters through the weekend. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gulf of Papagayo: Fresh to strong northeast winds will resume downstream the Gulf of Papagayo late tonight, reaching near 92W Friday. This wind episode will continue through Sun with max seas building to 10-11 ft. Fresh to strong northerly winds are also expected downstream of the Gulf of Panama starting tonight through Friday evening. Light to gentle offshore flow will prevail elsewhere. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A low pres system well N of the area extends a surface trough from 30N135W to 22N140W. Ahead of the trough, a cold front extends from 30N125W to 19N138W. Fresh to strong northerly winds are expected behind the trough through Thu morning with seas to 14 ft. The low will continue to lift N-NE away from the area Thu.
