Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: High pressure building into southern Mexico behind a frontal system across the Yucatan Peninsula and southern Mexico is supporting strong to near-gale north winds into the gulf. Winds in Tehuantepec will further strengthen to minimal gale force tonight and will pulse again at night Thu, with seas building to a max of 13 ft. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from 07N77W to 04N91W. The ITCZ axis continues from 04N91W to 05N120W to 07N140W. Scattered moderate and isolated strong convection from 05N to 09N between 116W and 126W. Scattered moderate convection is from 02N to 08N between 84W and 99W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... The high will support gentle northerly winds in the Baja offshore waters through Thursday. Moderate northerly winds will develop Fri morning as a strong ridge builds NW of the forecast area behind a cold front moving into southern California. Gulf of California: Light to gentle variable winds will dominate the gulf waters through the weekend. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gulf of Papagayo: Fresh to strong northeast winds will resume downstream the Gulf of Papagayo late tonight, reaching near 92W Friday. This wind episode will continue through Sun with max seas building to 10-11 ft. Fresh to strong northerly winds are also expected downstream of the Gulf of Panama starting tonight through Friday evening. Light to gentle offshore flow will prevail elsewhere. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A 998 mb surface low pres system N of the area near 34N131W extends a surface trough to 30N136W to a 1010 mb low near 29N138W to 26N140W. Fresh to strong winds are behind this area of low pressure with seas to 13 ft. The low over forecast waters will dissipate while the main low north of the area will continue to lift N-NE away from the area through Thu morning.
