Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: High pressure that prevailed over the Gulf of Mexico has started to shift eastward. This has veered winds over the SW Gulf of Mexico and also loosened the pressure gradient over the area. Minimal gale force winds remain over the Gulf of Tehuantepec, but will diminish below gale force by Thu morning. Another gale force wind event is expected to begin Fri night. This next event will be much weaker and shorter duration than the current event. Please refer to the East Pacific High Seas Forecast under AWIPS/WMO headers HSFEP2/FZPN03 KNHC for more details. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from 05N77W to 07N86W TO 05N93W. The ITCZ continues from 05N93W to 06N122W to 08N134W to 08N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted within 30 nm north of the ITCZ between 113W and 120W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Gulf of Tehuantepec: Please refer to the special features section above for more on the latest gap wind event. A broad wind field has generated a large area of 8 to 13 ft seas in northerly swell extending well away from the Gulf of Tehuantepec. These seas will subside below 8 ft over the next 24 hours as winds diminish over the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Elsewhere over the open waters, seas are expected to remain at or below 6 ft through Mon as a tranquil pattern prevails. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Nocturnal winds will pulse to fresh to strong each night over the Gulf of Papagayo through Mon night. Elsewhere N of 09N, gentle to moderate offshore flow will prevail. Moderate to fresh winds will prevail in the Gulf of Panama. Elsewhere, gentle to moderate S to SW winds will prevail S of 09N the next few days. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A mix of NE and NW swell continues over portions of the tradewind belt, with seas 8 ft or greater covering the waters from 04N to 12N W of 134W. Seas will subside to less than 8 ft across the trade wind belt Thu. Large swell generated from the latest Gulf of Tehuantepec gap wind event will propagate across the waters S of 14N and E of 115W, while gradually subsiding through the end of the week. $$ AL
