DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 300 PM MDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Rosa was located near latitude 16.5 North, longitude 112.2 West. Rosa is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this general motion is forecast to continue through Friday. A northwestward turn followed by a turn toward the north is forecast over the weekend. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 80 mph (130 km/h) with higher gusts, and rapid strengthening is forecast to continue through tonight. Afterward, further strengthening is expected at a slower rate Thursday and Friday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 987 mb (29.15 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Rosa will affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern Baja California Peninsula late this week and over the weekend.
