DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Rosa was located near latitude 15.5 North, longitude 110.4 West. Rosa is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this general motion is forecast to continue for the next two to three days. A turn to the northwest is expected by Friday night. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. Rapid strengthening is anticipated, and Rosa is forecast to become a hurricane later today and a major hurricane on Thursday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 997 mb (29.44 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Rosa will affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern Baja California Peninsula late this week and over the weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
