DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Kristy was located near latitude 17.4 North, longitude 129.9 West. Kristy is moving toward the north near 7 mph (11 km/h). A turn toward the north-northeast is expected overnight, followed by a turn back to the north with a decrease in forward speed on Saturday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Some additional is strengthening is possible, and Kristy could become a hurricane overnight or early Friday before it reaches cooler water. Gradual weakening is expected to begin later on Friday and continue through the weekend. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km) from the center.
