DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Olivia was located near latitude 16.9 North, longitude 121.2 West. Olivia is moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue through today. A turn toward the west-northwest is expected later tonight, followed by a gradual turn back toward the west over the weekend. Maximum sustained winds are near 115 mph (185 km/h) with higher gusts. Olivia is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Slow weakening is forecast to continue for the next few days. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km).
