DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm John was located near latitude 15.1 North, longitude 107.3 West. John is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h) and a faster northwestward motion is forecast for the next few days. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. John is forecast to become a hurricane later today and a major hurricane on Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by John are expected to begin affecting the coast of southwestern Mexico during the next day or so.
