DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 900 PM MDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm John was located near latitude 14.9 North, longitude 106.2 West. John is moving toward the northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h), and this general motion with some increase in forward speed is expected over the next few days. Maximum sustained winds have increased near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Steady to rapid strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and John is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Monday night or Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1004 mb (29.65 inches).
