DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- The first tropical storm of the 2018 eastern North Pacific season has formed. At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Aletta was located near latitude 14.1 North, longitude 106.5 West. Aletta is moving toward the west near 7 mph (11 km/h), but a gradual turn to the west-northwest with no significant change in forward speed is expected during the next 2 to 3 days. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Aletta is expected to become a hurricane by early Thursday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) to the east of the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches).
