Individual waves may be more than twice the significant wave height. Synopsis for the Gulf of Mexico .SYNOPSIS...Strong thunderstorms are occurring over portions of the central and southeastern Gulf of Mexico in association with a stationary front and a pair of 1006 mb lows along the front. This system will move E today and then inland across Florida tonight. Strong to near gale-force southerly winds are expected over the eastern Gulf today, mainly associated with the thunderstorm activity. Some of the thunderstorms could be severe with gale force gusts and frequent lightning. A trailing cold front is located over the NW Gulf of Mexico and will reach from near Pensacola, FL to near Veracruz, Mexico this evening, and exit the basin to the SE late Sat afternoon. Fresh to strong northerly winds will spill across the basin well behind the front tonight through Sat. High pressure in the wake of the front will quickly shift eastward from late Sat night through Sun night, allowing for fresh to strong southerly winds to develop over the western Gulf, ahead of the next cold front. Strong southerly winds will shift to the central and eastern Gulf early Mon through Mon night as a cold front enters the western Gulf late Mon night.
