Seas given as significant wave height, which is the average
height of the highest 1/3 of the waves. Individual waves may be
more than twice the significant wave height.

Synopsis for the Gulf of Mexico

.SYNOPSIS...A cold front extending from near Naples, Florida to
near the western tip of Cuba through the Yucatan Channel will
move east through the remainder of the Gulf this morning,
accompanied by a band of strong thunderstorms. Strong to gale
force W to NW winds are expected over northern Gulf waters
through this afternoon. Large seas of 12 ft or greater across
the northern Gulf will spread southeast, gradually subsiding
this weekend.
