A cold front extending from near Tampa Bay, FL to the central Gulf near 26N90W to the SW Gulf near Veracruz, Mexico will stall across the Gulf waters later today, then begin to lift N early on Mon. A recent scatterometer pass shows only gentle to moderate N-NE winds in the wake of the front. A second push of cold air, along with a developing low pressure along the frontal boundary over the NE Gulf will allow its transition to a cold front over the northern Gulf waters on Mon. The low is forecast to move across Florida toward the western Atlantic Ocean late on Mon dragging the cold front across the SE Gulf and South Florida by Wed. Then, the front is forecast to dissipate across the Straits of Florida by Thu. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to strong winds are forecast in the south-central Caribbean near the coast of Colombia tonight through Tue as a well defined ridge remains extending from E-W north of the area. The most recent ASCAT pass indicates moderate to fresh winds across the south-central Caribbean, with mainly fresh NE-E winds near the coast of Colombia. Fresh to locally strong winds are forecast in the Gulf of Honduras mainly at night through much of the forecast period. In fact, scatterometer data confirmed the presence of these winds S of 18N between 84W and 87W this morning. Gentle to moderate trade winds are expected elsewhere today, becoming moderate to fresh on Mon through Wed. Moderate to fresh winds will affect the tropical Atlantic waters during the forecast period. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extending from 31N75W to near Daytona Beach, FL will reach from 31N68W to South Florida this evening. Latest scatterometer data reveal the presence of strong to near gale force winds ahead of the front N of 27N. The western portion of the front is forecast to lift back to the N as a warm front on Mon and connect with a developing low pres just off South Carolina. The low will move E-NE on Tue dragging a cold front across Florida. The new cold front will extend from 31N72W to South Florida on Wed, and dissipate across the Straits of Florida by Thu.
