000 AGXX40 KNHC 250548 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 1248 AM EST Mon Dec 25 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A cold front is currently slowing from the Florida Big Bend to near 26N90W where it becomes stationary and continues S to the Bay of Campeche. A secondary cold front over the northern Gulf is expected to overrun the initial front today, with the merged boundary stalling briefly E to W along about 25N this evening. The W segment of the merged front will lift N as a warm front across the W Gulf beginning tonight, and stall across the far NW and N-Central waters on Thu enhancing convection, and perhaps setting up areas of patchy dense fog along its boundary. Guidance suggests that a frontal wave low will develop along the stalled front on Wed and move S dissipating on Thu. Another cold front will move Se into the N-Central waters on Thu night and reach from the Florida Big bend to the Central waters late Fri. The strong N-NE breeze behind the secondary cold front will shift SW to along the coast of Veracruz briefly this evening then diminish. Expect moderate to locally fresh SE flow N of the remnant front as it lifts N on Tue and Wed. Strong NE flow is expected N of the frontal wave low on Wed. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Expect strong trades over the Central and SW Caribbean through Thu, with near gale force nocturnal winds near the coast of Colombia. The pressure gradient will relax some on Fri night, but still maintain a small area of strong trades along the NW coast of Colombia. Fresh to locally strong NE winds are expected through the Windward Passage on Tue evening. Large E swell will build seas to 9 ft E of the Lesser Antilles along 55W beginning tonight, with these swells reaching the E Atlc passages on Tue evening, and continue through Thu evening. Expect seas of 6-8 ft only across the tropical waters E of the Windwards on Fri. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extending SW from 31N80W to 29N81W is accompanied by fresh SW-W-NW wind shift across the waters N of 28N, with seas to 7 ft. The front will stall from 29N65W to the Straits of Florida tonight into early Tue, then gradually weaken through Thu as the frontal remnants lift N as a weak warm front. Model guidance continues to suggest that a frontal wave low will develop along the front near 31N79W late Thu, and race E passing near Bermuda on Fri while dragging a new cold front SE through the Central Bahamas. The tightening pressure gradient will support strong N-NE winds NW of the low pressure, while strong NE-E winds develop across the waters N of 27N E of the low to 60W late Thu.
