000 AGXX40 KNHC 251849 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 149 PM EST Sat Nov 25 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Broad high pressure prevails over the forecast waters. A surface trough stretching from 22N85W to 31N85W weakens the ridge. Latest surface observations indicate light to gentle winds prevail over the Gulf, except for some moderate return flow west of 95W along the coasts of Mexico and Texas. Seas are in the 2-4 ft range over the SE Gulf, and 1-3 ft elsewhere. High pressure will maintain benign conditions over the forecast waters through midweek before shifting NE over the SE United States. This will open the door for a cold front to move off the coast of Texas into the NW Gulf Wed evening. A reinforcing surge of cold air will follow behind the front on Fri. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A cold front is moving slowly across the NW waters from central Cuba near 21.5N79W to north of Honduras near 18N83W. A broad trough continues to reside over the central Caribbean. The axis of the trough runs from west of Jamaica near 18.5N79.5W to north of Panama near 11N80W. The latest satellite-derived wind data indicated a strip of fresh to strong north winds funneling along the coast of Nicaragua between the trough and high pressure ridging SE from the Gulf of Mexico. Otherwise, light to gentle winds prevail over the NW Caribbean while gentle to moderate winds prevail over the remainder of the Caribbean waters as well as the tropical N Atlantic forecast zones. Seas are in the 5-7 ft range off the coast of Nicaragua, 2-4 ft over the NW Caribbean, 3-5 ft over the remainder of the Caribbean, and 5-7 ft over the tropical N Atlantic forecast waters. The trough will stay parked over the central Caribbean for the next several days. The cold front will stall and slowly wash out over the western Caribbean by Monday. Low pressure moving eastward from the Carolinas will weaken the ridge to the north and allow the strong winds along the coast of Nicaragua to subside tonight. Ridging from the NW will retighten the pressure gradient over the SW Caribbean and cause strong winds to return to the coast of Nicaragua Mon through Tue. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Deepening low pressure east of the Carolinas continues to pull northeastward away from the area. The associated cold front is being dragged slowly SE into the central Bahamas. Latest surface observations and satellite-derived winds indicate strong winds north of 29.5N and east of the front to 70W. Moderate to fresh winds are evident west of the front, while moderate to fresh winds are seen east of the front and north of 27N. Gentle to moderate winds are observed elsewhere. Seas are in the 6-8 ft range over the NW waters. The highest seas are observed along 31N just west of the front. Seas range between 5 and 7 ft over the NE waters, 4-5 ft elsewhere east of the Bahamas, and 0-2 ft west of the Bahamas. The portion of the cold front south of 26N will stall over the central Bahamas Sun and Sun night. High pressure will build east from the Carolinas in the wake of the front, then maintain moderate to fresh NE to E winds over the forecast waters through the middle of next week. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
