000 AGXX40 KNHC 251816 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 216 PM EDT Wed Oct 25 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... The cold front, previously located over the SE Gulf, has moved into the NW Caribbean Sea. Recent scatterometer data and surface observations indicate fresh to strong northerly winds across the gulf waters but mainly S of 26N with seas of 7-10 ft based on an altimeter pass and buoys observations. Winds and seas are forecast to gradually diminish across the gulf waters during the day today as the cold front continues to shift eastward and high pressure builds over the northern Gulf. Fresh return flow will begin over the NW Gulf by early Fri, ahead of another cold front moving into the NW Gulf late Fri. The front will reach from the western Florida Panhandle to the central Bay of Campeche by midday Sat, with winds funneling along the coast of Mexico reaching possibly gale force and seas building to 10 to 13 ft. The front will pass SE of the region Sun, interacting with a low pressure area moving ahead of the front from the NW Caribbean across western and central Cuba. Winds and seas will gradually diminish across the Gulf through late Sun as high pressure builds again over the region. Currently, the forecast calls for gale conditions possible across the west-central and SW Gulf on Saturday. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A broad area of low pressure located off the coast of Nicaragua in the western Caribbean Sea has become a little better organized over the past few hours. Latest satellite imagery shows numerous moderate and scattered strong convection from 10N to 14N between 78W and the coast of Nicaragua. Winds and seas could be higher near the tstms. Close proximity to land is likely to limit development of this system for the next day or so. However, environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for the system to become more organized later this week as it moves slowly northward over the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Strong upper-level winds associated with an approaching cold front will likely prevent further development by Sunday. A cold front extending from western Cuba to the Gulf of Honduras is forecast to move SE across the basin, reaching from central Cuba to the Gulf of Honduras tonight, then from eastern Cuba to near Cabo Gracias a Dios, Nicaragua by midday on Thursday. Fresh to strong N to NE winds and seas of 8 to 9 ft are expected behind the front. Elsewhere moderate trades will persist. A tropical wave is moving across the Tropical N Atlantic waters followed by moderate to isolated strong convection, fresh to locally strong E to SE winds, and seas of 8 to 9 ft. The wave will move across the Lesser Antilles tonight, and across the eastern Caribbean Thursday and Friday. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extends from 31N77W across the NW Bahamas and western Cuba into the Caribbean Sea. The front will reach from 31N73W to central Cuba tonight, and from 31N69W to eastern Cuba by midday Thu, before stalling and weakening from near 31N60W to central Cuba through Fri and Sat. Fresh to strong winds ahead and behind the front are forecast to persist through tonight. On Thursday, mainly gentle to moderate winds will prevail on either side of the front with seas of 5 to 7 ft E of the Bahamas, and 1 to 3 ft W of the Bahamas, with the exception of 4 to 6 ft across the Straits of Florida. Looking ahead, another front will move off the coast of Florida by early Sun, possibly interacting with the broad area of low pressure currently located over the Caribbean Sea. This could bring an increase in winds and seas across the SW N Atlantic on Sunday. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ017...W CENTRAL GULF FROM 22N TO 26N W OF 94W...
