000 AGXX40 KNHC 241900 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 300 PM EDT Tue Oct 24 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A cold front extends from SW Florida to the NW Yucatan peninsula to near 18N93W in the far SW Gulf. Strong winds follow the front, especially over the far NW Gulf where reinforcing cold air is seeping into the region. The reinforcement will maintain strong winds and seas to 10 ft over mainly the western Gulf into Wednesday. Winds and seas diminish thereafter as the front slips to the south of the area and high pressure builds over the northern Gulf. Fresh return flow will begin over the NW Gulf by early Fri, ahead of another front moving into the NW Gulf late Fri. The front will reach from the western Florida Panhandle to the far SW Gulf by midday Sat, with winds funneling along the coast of Mexico reaching possibly gale force and seas building 10 to 13 ft. The front will pass SE of the region Sun, interacting with a low pressure area moving ahead of the front from the NW Caribbean across western and central Cuba. Winds and seas will gradually diminish across the Gulf through late Sun as high pressure builds over the region. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Broad low pressure is becoming a little better organized over the far SW Caribbean near 11N82W. The low pressure is expected to evolve gradually as it moves into the NW Caribbean through Sat, but then will move more NE through western and central Cuba ahead of cold front moving across the Gulf of Mexico. The front will dig through the Yucatan Channel and into the NW Gulf late Sat and Sun in the wake of the low pressure, followed by strong northerly winds and seas to 8 ft, mainly near the Yucatan Channel. Elsewhere moderate trades will persist. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front is moving off the coast of NE Florida, currently reaching from 31N78W to near Cape Canaveral. The front will reach from 31N77W to the northern Keys early Wed, from 31N70W to eastern Cuba by early Thu, before stalling and weakening from Bermuda to central Cuba through Fri and Sat. Fresh to strong NW winds behind the front will diminish Wed, leaving a fairly weak pressure pattern along with gentle breezes over the region through the remainder of the week.
