A surface ridge will meander westward from the Florida Big Bend across the Northern Coastal Waters and Coastal Plains through Sat. A coastal trough will extend S from the Texas Coastal Bend to near Veracruz Mexico through early Wed morning. Tropical Storm Franklin is crossing the Yucatan Peninsula and is close to the Bay of Campeche near 20N90W. Franklin has been generating large rainfall accumulations and tropical storm force winds. Franklin will strengthen to a strong tropical storm near 20.4N 95.4W at 8 PM on Wed, then move W inland over Mexico near 20.3N97.6W around sunrise on Thu. Winds will diminish to 20 kt or less, and seas will subside to less than 8 ft by sunrise on Fri. In the wake of Franklin a thermal trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula on Thu and Fri evenings, move slowly westward during the overnight hours, and dissipate over the SW Gulf by late each morning. Expect a fresh to locally strong NE-E-SE wind shift, and 3-5 ft seas, along this trough. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Tropical Storm Franklin has almost crossed the Yucatan Peninsula into the Gulf of Mexico. Winds will diminish to 20 kt or less, and seas subside to less than 8 ft by this evening. Fresh to strong trades are expected along the NW coast of Colombia this evening. Guidance is suggesting that stronger nocturnal winds will occur along the N coast of Venezuela and Colombia on Thu, Fri and Sat evenings. Fresh NE-E winds and seas to 7 ft will arrive along 55W this afternoon in association with a tropical wave that will pass through the Lesser Antilles early Wed, pass through the Central Caribbean on Thu and Fri, then slow somewhat as it continues through the w Caribbean during the upcoming weekend. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A surface high currently near 29N61W will drift slowly E-NE passing near Bermuda on Wed night, and continue NE further away from the area on Thu and Fri with a ridge extending westward to NE Florida throughout the next 5 days. Light to locally moderate southerly flow is expected N of the ridge. Moderate to fresh E trades will continue across the tropical waters S of 23N today, then diminish across the Old Bahama Channel on Wed, but be re- enforced further to the E as a tropical wave reaches along 55W this afternoon, passes through the Virgin Islands on Wed and Thu, reaches the Atlc approach to Mona Passage on Thu night and Fri, and passes through the Atlc approach to the Windward Passage on Fri night and Sat.
